Cedar, vinyl, chain link, and ornamental metal each do a different job well. Pick the job first, then the material.
Most regret comes from choosing a look before choosing a purpose. A fence that has to hold a dog, block a view, and please an HOA is solving three problems at once.
Write down the one or two jobs that matter most. The right material usually becomes obvious after that.
We install all four, so we have no reason to steer you toward one.
The classic Northwest fence. Full privacy, natural look, and several styles. It asks for some upkeep, and it lasts far longer when the posts are steel instead of buried wood.
Read →The low-maintenance choice. No staining or sealing, and a uniform look that stays uniform. It is unforgiving about installation, so layout and posts matter.
Read →Encloses a lot of ground, lasts a long time, and asks nothing of you afterward. It gives security without privacy unless you add to it.
Read →Open pickets and a polished look. The right pick when curb appeal and visibility matter more than privacy.
Read →Cedar and vinyl give full privacy. Chain link and ornamental metal keep the view open.
Vinyl, chain link, and metal need very little. Cedar needs occasional attention if you want to hold its color.
Slopes, wind exposure, wet ground, and salt air all change the answer. We look at those on site, before recommending anything.
Which material lasts longest?
It depends on the site and how it is built more than on the material alone. On wood fences the buried post is usually the first thing to fail, which is why we use steel posts set in concrete.
Can I mix materials?
Often, yes. A common setup is privacy fencing along the back and something more open across the front. We talk through what makes sense at the estimate.
Do you publish prices by material?
No. Footage, slope, gates, access, and removal change the number too much for a per-foot figure to mean anything. Your written estimate prices your exact yard.
What if my HOA limits materials?
Bring the rules to the estimate. We will work within them and tell you plainly what your options are.
