Fence repair and replacement

Repair, or replace?
We tell you honestly.

Sometimes a section blows down and the rest is fine. Sometimes the whole line is fifteen years old and the section that fell is just the first one. Those are two completely different conversations.

The straight answer

Read this before you call

Our minimum project is $5,000, so we are best suited for larger fence projects rather than small, individual repairs. If your project is below that scope, we may not be the right fit.

Where we are the right call is substantial repair and replacement: a long run that is failing, a line where the posts have rotted at grade, storm damage across multiple sections, or a fence that is technically standing but that you have stopped trusting.

And when we do come out, we will tell you if repair is genuinely the better answer. We would rather recommend the work your fence actually needs than replace more than necessary.

Usually a replacement
— Posts have rotted where they meet the ground, along the whole run
— More than a couple of sections are leaning or down
— The fence is old enough that matching material is a problem
— You are repairing the same fence for the second or third time
— The original posts were set in dirt rather than concrete
What we see most

Four ways Pacific Northwest weather can wear down a fence

Almost all of it traces back to one decision made years ago: what the posts were made of and how they went in.

Rot at the ground line

A wood post buried in wet ground is on a clock from the day it goes in. It fails right where the air meets the soil.

Wind and storm damage

A solid fence is a sail. When a post is already weak, the first serious blow finds it.

The gate quitting first

A wood-framed gate can shift out of alignment, sag, and stop latching properly. It is often one of the first signs of trouble with a fence.

How we do it differently

Six reasons the replacement outlasts the original

01

Steel posts, as standard

Steel posts are standard on wood fencing, not an upgrade. This helps prevent the same problems that caused the previous fence to fail.

02

Steel gate frames too

The gate might be the first thing that failed last time. It is framed in steel this time.

03

Posts set in concrete

Footings sized to the height of the fence and the ground conditions on your property.

04

We look at the whole line

Whole fence checked, not just the damaged section. If other areas show the same problems, that should be clear before money is spent on repairs.

05

Locates before we dig

Utility locates called and cleared. Permits pulled where your jurisdiction requires one.

06

The old fence leaves with us

Removal and haul-off are included as part of the project, so the old fencing is taken care of.

Start to finish

From first call to final walk

Step 01

Send a photo

Honestly the fastest route. A photo of the failed section tells us most of what we need to know.

Step 02

Straight answer on the phone

If it is smaller than our minimum, we say so then, and not after a visit.

Step 03

On-site assessment

We walk the whole line, not just the part that fell, and tell you what we actually see.

Step 04

Written price

Itemized and in writing, with repair and replacement scoped separately where that is a necessary choice.

Step 05

Locates and permits

Ours to handle once you approve.

Step 06

Build and walk

Old fence out, new fence in, final walk before we close out the project.

On price

The awkward truth about fence repair is that the cheap version is often really the expensive one. Replacing three sections of a fence whose posts are all the same age buys you a year, and then you pay the mobilization cost again.

We scope both where both are genuinely reasonable, and we will tell you which one we would do for our own house. Our minimum project rate is $5,000.

$5,000 project minimum
What moves the number
— How much of the run is actually failing versus visibly failing
— Whether the existing posts can be reused at all
— Ground conditions along the fence line
— Matching an existing fence versus replacing the full line
— Access, and whether a truck can reach the line
— Gates, and whether they come with it

Per-foot pricing only tells part of the story. The full project price comes after seeing the property, understanding the scope, and knowing what the job actually involves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions we get asked

Do you do small repairs?

No. Our minimum project is $5,000, so smaller repairs may not be a fit. Send us a photo, and we can let you know before scheduling a visit.

How do I know whether to repair or replace?

It depends on whether one section failed or the whole fence is showing the same problem. The full line is checked, and the recommendation is based on what makes sense for your fence.

Can you match my existing fence?

Often. Older fences weather to a color new material will not match right away. If much of the fence is already aging, a partial replacement may only postpone a larger project.

My neighbor and I share the fence. How does that work?

Talk with your neighbor first about the property line, cost sharing, and finished side. Work stays on your property and does not extend onto a neighbor’s side without their agreement.

Why steel posts instead of wood?

Wood posts can rot where they meet damp soil, causing fences to lean. Steel posts are standard on our wood fencing, not an upgrade or something you need to request.

What exactly does the lifetime workmanship warranty cover?

It covers installation quality while the original customer owns the property. Workmanship or installation issues are repaired at no labor cost. It is the only lifetime workmanship warranty among Thurston County fence companies.

Is there financing?

Financing is available, including 0% options on approved credit. You can apply online before your estimate, so the visit can focus on what you want built and the options that work for you.
