Josh Phillips worked his way up to second in command at another fence and deck company. When it closed, he had a choice about what to do next, and a fairly specific idea of what had been missing.
Josh Phillips has more than fifteen years in the trade. He worked his way up to second in command at another fence and deck company. That put him close enough to the top to see everything about how a contracting business actually runs, and everything about how it might go wrong.
When that company closed, he started Lionheart Fence Builders in 2020.
While Lionheart was founded in 2020, Josh has more than fifteen years in the trade. Each speaks to something different: the history of the company and the experience behind it.
Strength, determination, courage, resolve. It is a straightforward name for a straightforward idea: do the work properly, stand behind it, and stay true to the standards that guide every project.
In practice that shows up in specific decisions rather than in slogans. Steel posts as standard on wood fencing, because the alternative fails here. A lifetime workmanship warranty written narrowly enough that it actually pays out. Crews that work for us rather than for a subcontractor.
Each of those standards adds to the work. We choose them because quality matters.
These standards take more effort, but they are part of building every project properly.
Every job should be better than the last one. If we learned something last week, it shows up in this week’s work.
Telling you when your fence still has years left in it, even if you thought it needed replacing. We recommend the work it actually needs.
If it is our workmanship, it is our problem. That is what the warranty is, written down.
Steel posts come standard on every wood fence we build. It is a construction standard we believe in, not an added upgrade.
Lionheart is family owned and locally owned, based at 2450 Mottman Rd SW in Tumwater. We run three installation crews and serve Thurston, Pierce, Mason, and Lewis counties — roughly an hour and a half in any direction from the shop.
The Tumwater office is where customers can sign documents or make a payment. Project conversations happen on your property, where we can walk the space with you, understand what you want to build, and discuss the fence or deck in its actual setting.
The goal for the next two to three years is to roughly double our crews and our project volume, with more of it in decks and outdoor living. Which is a growth plan, and also a hiring plan — see Careers.
Our Tumwater location puts us within reach of four counties. Share your location, and we can confirm your area quickly.
Free estimates, no obligation. Our project minimum is $5,000.
