Our build standard

Wood posts rot here.
So we stopped using them.

A premium project is not about how it looks the week it is finished. It is about what the ground, the rain, and fifteen winters do to it after we leave. That is a construction decision, and we make it the same way on every job.

The problem

The fence did not fail. The post did.

Walk any neighborhood in Thurston County and look at the fences still standing straight. Their strength starts at the ground line, where the posts support everything above them.

It comes down to how wood handles the Pacific Northwest climate. Wood in contact with damp ground has a finite life. A wood post set in concrete lasts longer, but it is still exposed to the conditions that wear wood down.

The whole fence, the boards you picked, the gate, and the line you paid to have run straight, depends on that one component.

What actually fails, in order
— The wood post, at the soil line, where air meets wet ground
— The gate, because a wood frame racks out of square
— The rails, once the post they were attached to has moved
— The boards, last, and usually they were fine
Our answer

Steel posts. Steel gate frames. Standard.

On our wood fencing, steel posts are the standard, not a premium tier, not an upgrade line on the estimate, and not something you have to request separately. Steel gate frames are standard too.

We make this choice on every job because the alternative is building a fence with a predictable weak point, and then offering a lifetime workmanship warranty on it. Those two things do not belong together.

So the cedar you see is truly cedar. The structure holding it up is not.

Built for this climate

Six standards we do not negotiate

These are not upsells. They are simply how we build.

01

Steel posts on wood fencing

Damp ground and prolonged rain do not get to wear down the posts holding your fence up.

02

Steel gate frames

The gate is the moving part and the first failure. It gets a frame that stays aligned and latches properly.

03

Every post set in concrete

Footings sized to the height of the fence and how firm or soft the ground is on your lot.

04

The grade decision is made with you

Step or rake. On a sloped lot this is the biggest visual decision of your whole project.

05

Locates and permits are handled

We clear utility locates before digging and take care of any permits required for your project.

06

Our crews, not a stranger

We run our own installation crews. The company that quotes the work is the company that builds it.

Why it matters

You are paying for the part you will never see.

The work we do underneath is not what shows up in a photo. Its value arrives years later, when the fence has not moved, the gate still latches, and you have not had to think about it either.

That is genuinely what we are selling. Not just the fence, but the work behind not having to think about it.

It is also why we can put a lifetime workmanship warranty in writing. The installation is built around the same standards that warranty stands behind.

Frequently Asked Questions about Building for the Pacific Northwest

Fair questions about this

Does a steel post look different from a wood post?

On a finished fence, the posts are part of the design either way. We will show you how they look with the style you are considering when we walk your property.

Why steel posts instead of wood?

Because wood posts can rot where they meet damp soil. Steel posts are standard on our wood fencing, not an upgrade tier, and not something you have to request separately.

What about the posts over the long term?

We use steel posts as our standard to keep the fence supported, stable, and standing straight over time. That construction standard is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty.

What about vinyl, chain link, and metal fences?

Steel posts and steel gate frames are standard on our wood fencing specifically. Vinyl, chain link, and ornamental metal are different systems with different structural requirements. Every post is set in concrete.

Why do other companies still use wood posts?

Wood posts can make the initial quote lower, but they can rot at the ground line and need replacement sooner. We use steel posts as our standard for longer-lasting support.

Do you set posts in concrete?

Every post, on every job. Each post is set deep enough for the fence height and how firm or soft the ground is on your lot.

What exactly does the lifetime workmanship warranty cover?

It covers installation quality while the original customer owns the property. If a problem results from improper installation or workmanship, we repair it at no labor cost to you.
