Custom Gates

A secure fence starts with the gate.

A fence stays put. A gate moves several times a day, in the rain, with your hands full. It is one of the clearest signs that a fence company has planned and built the whole project well.

The straight answer

Steel frames. Standard. Not an upgrade line.

Most wood gates are built the same way as the fence panel next to them, with a wooden frame and boards on it. That frame carries its own weight on two hinges, swinging through weather several times a day. Wood racks. The gate drops. The latch stops lining up. Eventually somebody props it open and leaves it there.

We frame our gates in steel and hang the wood on it. The steel does the structural work, the wood does the looking-right work, and the gate keeps closing the way it did on day one.

That is standard on our wood fencing. It is built into how we install it, so you do not have to request it separately.

What we check before we build one
— Opening width, including what needs to fit through it now and later
— Swing direction, and what the gate needs to clear when fully open
— Latch side, latch height, and who will be using the gate most often
— Ground under the gate, including whether it is level or slopes upward
— Number of hinges, and hardware sized to support the gate’s weight
— How the gate meets the fence on both sides, so everything lines up cleanly
What we build

Three kinds of gates, one standard.

Walk gates

The one you use every day. Steel-framed, hung on hardware sized for the gate’s weight, and adjusted before we leave the property.

Double and drive gates

Wide openings for vehicles, trailers, and equipment. Width is the challenge here, and a steel frame gives the gate the support it needs.

Custom gates

Unusual widths, sloped ground, a specific style you want. If it can be drawn on the tailgate, we can build it to fit.

How we build it

Six things that make a gate last

01

The gate posts carry the real job

Gate posts carry a load no other post carries. They get more depth and more concrete, because everything else depends on them.

02

Steel frame under the wood

Standard on our wood gates. The frame stays square; the wood stays aligned.

03

Hardware sized to the gate

Hinge count and latch are chosen for the gate’s actual weight and width, not simply from whatever hardware is on hand.

04

Swing is planned on site

Which way it opens, what it clears, and where it rests when it is open.

05

Gate adjusted before we go

The gate is opened, closed, latched, and adjusted on the last day. We leave it working exactly as it should be.

06

It matches the fence

A good gate should look like it belongs with the fence. That is the whole idea.

On price

Our minimum project is $5,000, so gate work is typically part of a fence project or larger replacement. If you need a single gate, let us know when you call, and we will tell you if the project is a fit.

Where gates do drive price is width and weight. A four-foot walk gate and a sixteen-foot drive gate are different builds with different posts, different frames, and different hardware.

$5,000 project minimum
What moves the number
— Opening width, and whether it uses one gate panel or two
— What needs to pass through, including people, mowers, vehicles, and trailers
— Ground under the gate, and whether it rises along the swing path
— Hardware sized for the weight of the gate
— Whether gate posts can share footings with the fence line
— Matching an existing fence, or building the gate and fence together

We don't publish per-foot pricing, because a number without a site visit is a guess. Your written price comes after we've walked the property.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions we get asked

Can you build a gate to match my existing fence?

Usually, and a photo of the opening and the fence will tell us quickly. Be aware that an older fence has weathered to a color that new material will not match on day one.

Do you install automatic gate openers?

No. We build and install the gate itself, but automatic openers and access controls are handled by a separate contractor who specializes in those systems.

How wide can a drive gate be?

It depends on what needs to pass through and the ground conditions. Tell us what you need the gate to accommodate, and we will plan accordingly.

What are steel gate frames and why do they matter?

Steel gate frames help gates stay square, supported, and properly aligned over time. We use them as standard on our wood fencing for added strength and reliable operation.

Do you build the gates yourselves?

Yes, and we hang, swing, latch and adjust them before we leave the property. The gate posts also get more depth and more concrete than the rest of the line, because they carry load no other post carries.

What exactly does the lifetime workmanship warranty cover?

It covers installation quality while the original customer owns the property. We repair workmanship or installation issues at no labor cost. It is the only lifetime workmanship warranty among Thurston County fence companies.

Is there financing?

On approved credit, we have 0% financing. You can apply online before your estimate, so the visit can focus on what you want built and the options that work for you.
