Western red cedar is the classic Pacific Northwest fence, and the one most companies get wrong, because they bury the posts in the ground. We don’t.
A lower quote often means compromises in materials, installation, or both. With Lionheart, the difference goes into things you can see and understand: quality cedar, steel posts built for Pacific Northwest conditions, and an experienced crew that stands behind its work.
If you’re comparing three quotes on price alone, we may not be your first choice. If you want a cedar fence built for long-term durability, let’s walk your property together.
Our project minimum is $5,000Clay here holds water all winter. A buried wood post is on a clock from day one. Ours are steel, set in concrete, with the cedar mounted above the soil line.
We go through the cedar we are specifying with you on site, against your house, before anything is ordered. Down at the ground line, where moisture sits, the detailing matters more than anywhere else on the fence.
Gates take more abuse than any other part of a fence. Steel frames keep them latching years after a wood-framed gate has dropped.
Same cedar, same steel, different look. Samples come into the estimate and the layout gets mocked up on site.
Tight-board six foot. The standard for a backyard, and for a new dog.
Alternating boards, so it reads as finished from both sides of the line.
High and light, without giving up privacy at eye level.
Modern lines for a newer house. Unforgiving with a dead-straight frame.
It usually fails from the ground up. Wet soil, winter wind, and the wrong materials shorten a fence’s life long before the cedar gives out. Here’s where we make a difference.
Western red cedar naturally resists rot and insects without relying on chemical treatment. We show you what we’re specifying on site, against your house, before the order is placed.
Thurston County soil can stay saturated through winter, putting more pressure on posts just as windstorm season arrives. We use steel posts, proper depth, concrete, and drainage to keep the foundation stable when the ground is at its most wet.
A six-foot privacy fence catches a lot of wind. Post size, depth, and spacing have to account for that load. We identify exposed runs at the estimate, not after the first winter storm.
Steel goes into the ground. Cedar stays above it. That keeps wood out of saturated soil while steel carries the structural load. We use steel gate frames too, because gates take more abuse than fence panels.
Shaded runs stay wet longer. Splashback keeps the bottom of the boards damp where rot tends to start. Ground clearance, drainage, and the right board choice give that moisture fewer places to linger.
Closer to Puget Sound, salt exposure puts additional stress on fence hardware. Site conditions vary, so we look at the property first and account for that exposure when we specify the build.
Written out plainly, because this is the part a low bid leaves off the page.
Steel below grade won't rot. It's the structural change that helps your cedar fence last much longer.
Gates carry more stress than any other part of a fence. Steel keeps them square and latching.

“They showed up every day of the project by 8am. They removed old fence and built a sturdy replacement to last for years… It was completed when promised and left our property better than they found it. Not a single board or nail left behind.”
— Kate Kesling · Google review“Christian, the lead installer, and his crew were professional, meticulous and took exceptional care of the plants growing inside the majority of the entire fence line.”
— LL J · Google review“I absolutely love my new privacy fence, and the vibe it adds to my new home.”
— LL J · Google reviewWe quote on site because every yard is different. These are the five things your estimator looks at while walking the property with you.
We measure the actual fence line on site, where turns and property conditions can change the total footage.
We account for your fence height and style because each one changes the materials required.
We check slopes, rock, roots, and whether our crew and equipment can reach the fence line.
We price each gate by its width, placement, and whether the opening requires a double gate.
We assess the existing fence and include what it takes to remove, haul, and dispose of it.
0% financing on approved credit. Spread the project across monthly payments instead of one check and apply in a few minutes, before or after your estimate.
How long does a cedar fence last here?
Lifespan depends on exposure, drainage, maintenance, and site conditions. We use steel posts because buried wood is often the first failure point. Removing wood from saturated ground also helps the cedar last longer.
Do I need a permit in Tumwater or Olympia?
Permit requirements depend on fence height, location, and jurisdiction. We confirm what applies to your specific property during the estimate, then handle the permit process when your project requires one.
How do you handle the property line?
We build on your property using the boundary you provide. Start with your plat map or survey pins to ensure the correct area. If the boundary is uncertain, we may recommend a survey before building.
Should I stain or seal the fence, and when?
Cedar naturally silvers as it weathers, which some homeowners prefer. If you want to preserve more of its original color, a finish can help. We discuss timing and options based on your specific fence and conditions.
Can you build in the rainy season?
Yes, we build through the wet season when conditions allow. Some installation steps still depend on weather and site conditions. If weather affects your scheduled work, our team keeps you informed about any necessary changes.
How far out are you booked right now?
Availability changes throughout the year, so we give you the current schedule when you call. We schedule your estimate on that first call, and after signing, your project is placed on the schedule within a week.
Can you match an existing cedar fence?
Often, but aged cedar and new boards will not look identical at first. We assess the fence during your estimate, explain how noticeable the transition may be, and discuss whether to match or replace the full run.
Based at 2450 Mottman Rd SW in Tumwater, about 90 minutes out in any direction.
Clear and without pressure. We build through winter because the ground stays workable here, so scheduling in the off-season avoids the spring rush. Our project minimum is $5,000.
